Ed Sheeran, an English singer-songwriter, wrote and released the song Life Goes On. As the third single from his fifth studio album, − (“Subtract”), it was released on May 12, 2023, by Asylum and Atlantic Records. The same day, a duet version of the song with American singer-songwriter Luke Combs was also released. Aaron Dessner produced the song. On May 5, 2023, the day the album was released, the official music video for the song’s solo version debuted alongside the films for every other song on the album.
Life Goes On was composed in memory of Sheeran’s friend Jamal Edwards, who passed away from an arrhythmia.
On March 1, 2023, Sheeran revealed the song and the album, offering a number of pre-order options. He mentioned Combs on May 11 before making a suggestion about the partnership and saying that he would really love to go into country music. Later on in the day, at the Ford Centre at The Star in Frisco, Texas, for the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards, the two performers gave a performance of the song’s duet.
