I’d Come for You is the fourth single in Canada and the second in Europe from Nickelback‘s 2008 Dark Horse album. Mutt Lange and the band wrote the song which was released on March 23, 2009. As an alternative, If Today Was Your Last Day became the third single in North America, following Gotta Be Somebody and the rock radio exclusive single Something in Your Mouth. Contrary to what some may have assumed from the title, the song’s lyrics are emotional rather than sexual.
Chad Kroeger stated in an interview that Kevin Costner was the ideal choice to play the father in the video. When they first met, Costner invited Chad Kroeger to appear in one of their videos. But he was unable to make it while the video was being shot.
The three actors in the video are Craig Anderson, Don Broach, and Jessa Danielson. The video for I’d Come for You was directed by longtime partner Nigel Dick and was recorded in late January 2009. In Canada, the video was made available on March 23, 2009. In the video, a father finds his daughter getting ready to go on a date with her boyfriend when dad gets home. Later, when the daughter makes two desperate calls to her father, one of which is a text message with the same number, 77, in a picture of the father and daughter near a baseball pitch, the boyfriend tries to sexually abuse her.
He starts seeking for her after realising that she is at the baseball pitch in a precarious scenario. Arriving just in time, he punches the young man again and pulls him out of the car before leaving with her sobbing in his arms. The band may be seen performing within a performance garden in several of the video’s shots.
