American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey‘s song Touch My Body was made available as the lead single from her eleventh studio album, E=MC², by Island Records on February 12, 2008. Together with Tricky Stewart, Carey co-wrote the song and co-produced it with Crystal “Cri$tyle” Johnson and Terius “The-Dream” Nash. The song’s lyrics convey two messages: first, they discuss her fantasies of having sex with her partner, and second, they playfully advise him not to record or disclose any details of their meeting.

Music critics gave “Touch My Body” mostly excellent reviews, praising its catchy melody and light pop hook. However, some critics said the song did not accurately reflect the singer’s vocal range. Carey surpassed Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most number one songs in American history when “Touch My Body” became her eighteenth chart leader on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, Carey tied Presley for the most weeks at the top of the chart with her 79th week there. The song peaked at number five outside of the US in Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the UK.

Filmmaker Brett Ratner, who had previously collaborated with Carey on multiple music projects, directed the music video for the song. The plot revolves around a computer worker’s fantasy in which, while visiting Carey’s house to fix her computer, he enters a world where they engage in various activities together and Carey flaunts her physique in a number of skimpy clothes. The music video took home the “MTV Video Vanguard Award” at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards Japan in addition to winning “Best Comedic Video” at the 2008 BET Awards. In addition, the video received a 2008 MTV Video Music Awards nomination for “Best Female Video”.
