With lyrics dedicated to Swift’s parents, particularly her mother, “The Best Day” is a subdued country rock ballad produced by Swift and Nathan Chapman. As part of a unique Mother’s Day promotion through Big Machine Records, Swift created and released a music video featuring her own home footage on May 1, 2009.
