Olivia Rodrigo is an American singer-songwriter, and her song Obsessed was made available on March 22, 2024 as the sole single from Guts’ 2024 deluxe version, Guts (Spilled), and the fourth single from Guts, both via Geffen Records. Dan Nigro, the music producer, Annie Clark, and Rodrigo wrote the song. Rodrigo added it to her current Guts World Tour set list.
Olivia Rodrigo continued working with Dan Nigro, who had produced every single on her debut studio album, Sour, following its commercial success. She wrote the lyrics to the follow-up album, Guts, when she was just 19 years old. She characterised the year as having “lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness and good old-fashioned teen angst.” The lead song, Vampire, was released four days after the album’s title and announcement on June 26, 2023. In a number of nations, including the US, the song peaked at number one, marking her third consecutive number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. In the music video, Rodrigo finds herself in a hotel ballroom surrounded by pageant competitors who had dated Rodrigo’s romantic partner. Titles like Miss Thought She Was the One, Miss Also Thought She Was the One, Miss 2 Summers Ago, Miss Mom’s Favourite, and Miss Still His ‘Closest Friend’ are among the inscriptions on the women’s sashes. Dressed in black, she walks into a packed banquet hall where around two dozen women, each with their own superlatives, are seated around tables.
