American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo wrote the song Get Him Back! for her second studio album, Guts (2023). Together with Dan Nigro, who also co-produced it with Ian Kirkpatrick and Alexander 23, Rodrigo penned the song. On September 15, 2023, the song was released as the third single from the album to Italian radio. Get Him Back! describes both Rodrigo’s wish to go back to her ex and get revenge on him, and it was inspired by Rodrigo’s propensity to enter relationships as a result of people’s expectations. The song was chosen as a standout by some critics.
Following the success of her first studio album, Sour (2021), Olivia Rodrigo kept working with producer Dan Nigro, who had overseen the production of every track. She characterised her 19-year-old self as having “lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness & good old fashioned teen angst” when she was thinking on the follow-up album, Guts (2023). On June 26, 2023, the album and title were revealed. Four days later, the lead song, Vampire, was made available. The song earned her third number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 after peaking at number one in a number of countries, including the US. The song Bad Idea Right? was selected as the follow-up single.
