The song Breaking News is credited to Michael Jackson, an American recording artist. The song was reportedly written by Eddie Cascio, James Porte, and Michael Jackson. Teddy Riley, Cascio, and Jackson produced it. It was included on the 2010 version of Jackson’s first posthumous album, Michael. The song was purportedly recorded in the Porte/Cascios basement in 2007 together with Monster and Keep Your Head Up. Since their publication, these songs have generated controversy as fans and relatives of Michael Jackson have questioned their veracity. A legal dispute remains as of August 2018, concerning whether Jason Malachi, a Jackson impersonator, sang the song’s lead voice.

In addition to many of his admirers, Jackson’s mother Katherine, sister La Toya, nephews T.J., Taj, and Taryll, and other family members questioned the veracity of Breaking News and other songs purportedly composed with Cascio and Porte that had already been leaked online.
The first part of Sony’s counsel’s sentence, “For purposes of the argument,” which is used in court not as an admission but rather as a statement of “even if the alleged action happened,” appears to have been omitted. On August 23, 2018, it was reported that Sony had admitted in court that the vocals on the three Cascio songs were not performed by Jackson and were instead recorded by Malachi after his death. But the following day, Zia Modabber of Katten Muchin Rosenman, Sony Music’s legal team, denied these accusations, saying that “no one has conceded that Michael Jackson did not sing on the songs.”
Amidst claims that the vocals are not Jackson’s, the single, Monster, and Keep Your Head Up were taken off from Spotify and Apple Music on July 6, 2022, by Jackson’s estate and Sony Music.
