The American rock group Linkin Park has a song called What I’ve Done. It is the sixth track and was released as the first single from their third studio album, Minutes to Midnight. On April 1, 2007, the song was made available on radio stations; a digital download followed on April 2, and a CD single followed on April 30, 2007.
In the 52nd Grammy Awards, What I’ve Done live from Road to Revolution: Live in Milton Keynes was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance but came up short. It is featured on Transformers: The Album in addition to serving as the closing credits theme for the science fiction blockbuster Transformers from 2007. It is the band’s most financially successful single in terms of pure sales, having received six platinum certifications from the RIAA. It peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.
It was made available in a Linkin Park DLC bundle for Rock Band 3 in January 2011. The song is also included in Iridescent’s B-side from the UK single. Sky UK presently uses the song’s instrumental version as the background music for its interactive services.
Minutes to Midnight was met with mixed reviews, however What I’ve Done debuted strongly on the US charts in the week of April 21, 2007. On April 10, 2007, the song made its debut at #7 in the US Hot 100 top 10. It earns Hot Shot debut of the week, becomes the third-highest place for a Linkin Park single to date on the Hot 100, and is the band’s second-highest chart debut to date (this title was previously held by Somewhere I Belong which opened at #47). Their best-selling debut up until the release of New Divide in May 2009 was this song.
It was only the third song by a non-American Idol performer to debut at #7 or higher on the Hot 100 at the time of its release, and the eleventh overall since 2000. The song, which debuted at #4 on the digital chart, was partially driven by digital sales. The RIAA recognised the song as 6× Platinum on May 12, 2022. By early 2011, it had racked up 3 million downloads, making it their most popular digital single in the US. The song had sold 3,700,000 copies in the US as of January 2015.
