My Last Ringtone by Big Sean Ft. Chris Brown
My Last is the lead single off American rapper Big Sean‘s debut album Finally Famous, which features American singer Chris Brown. No I.D. is the producer of the song.
After Brown showed up at one of Sean’s shows, the two got along and Brown proposed that they collaborate on a song, which led to Brown singing the chorus. Originally, Sean performed both the verses and the chorus. Over the track, Brown performed a freestyle as well.
My Last is an R&B and hip hop song. Rap-Up called the instrumental of the song a “bouncy piano-laced beat”. According to DJBooth, the beat consists of “soft keyboard chords that transition well into the hook where a low bass and snare set the pace for Sean’s first verse.” Sean disclosed that he had initially rejected the track but had changed his mind after No I.D., the song’s producer, put pressure on him. The 1988 New Edition smash song Can You Stand the Rain is sampled in this tune.
The song has received largely excellent reviews, with particular attention paid to Sean’s verses and the chorus. Chicago Now said that the song had a catchy chorus, catchy verses, and a worldwide message that complimented Big Sean’s rhymes. Sean was also commended for his lyrical skills by DJBooth.
On March 18, 2011, the music video was filmed in West Hollywood, California. Kid Cudi, a former GOOD Music artist, and Teyana Taylor, a current GOOD Music artist, make cameo appearances in the music video, which was directed by TAJ Stansberry. VEVO hosted its premiere on March 24, 2011.
