The American musical duo Twenty One Pilots released their song Overcompensate on February 29, 2024 via Clancy, the lead single from their upcoming seventh studio album, is inspired by Ramen. Along with Paul Meany, frontman Tyler Joseph wrote and produced it.
The band summarised the plot in a brief social media video titled “I Am Clancy” that was shared on February 22, 2024. It included Clancy’s attempts to flee Dema, his joining of the Banditos, his capture by the Dema bishops, and his escape to Voldsøy before gaining a special ability to take control of recently deceased people. Clancy declared that he would be “returning to Trench” as the video came to a conclusion.
A new track called Overcompensate and its music video were set to be released the following day at 13:00 ET, the band formally revealed on social media on February 28, 2024.
The song’s music video, which was mostly shot at Columbus, Ohio’s Athenaeum Theatre under the direction of Mark C. Eshleman, debuted on February 29, 2024. Commencing with the German, French, and Spanish vocals at the start of the song, it features landscapes and drawings related to the legend crafted by the group. The video then cuts to the duo performing at the venue, which is starting to swell with what are known as the “citizens of Dema,” all of whom are emotionless.
After showing the residents pictures of his diaries and city maps, Clancy (played by Joseph) passes out as the film shows the actual body at the venue was already dead and belonged to someone else. It belonged to Clancy, who shows up on an island—possibly the continent of “Trench”—along with Josh Dun’s character, the Torchbearer. It has received over 13 million views on YouTube as of March 17, 2024.
