The producers of Gotta Be Somebody were David Kopatz, Cutfather, Ray Hedges, and Nigel Butler. The choice to release a cover song as the lead single from the album was discussed by Shayne Ward in an interview with Digital Spy: “The whole shift from being rock to pop/R&B was really exciting for me and it’s definitely made it into my own track.” It’s the ideal lead single to release alongside my album Obsession. On October 29, 2010, the music video for Gotta Be Somebody made its debut on YouTube. Written by Ryan Tedder and Evan Bogart, Future Love is the B-side to the record. It is a cover of Kristinia DeBarge’s rendition of the Varsity Fanclub original.
Gotta Be Somebody became Ward’s sixth top 10 success in the nation when it originally appeared at number 10 on the Irish Singles Chart on November 12, 2010. The song was expected to rank in the top 10 earlier that week, and it debuted at number 12 on the UK Singles rank on November 14, 2010. This is Ward’s second single to miss the top 10 and his sixth top 20 hit overall.
