The American pop rock group Plain White T’s released the song Hey There Delilah on May 9, 2006, as an EP off their third studio album, All That We Needed. Later, with additional string accompaniment, the song was made available as a single from their fourth studio album, Every Second Counts, in 2007. Frontman Tom Higgenson wrote the song in 2002 after getting to know Delilah DiCrescenzo, an American cross-country and steeplechase runner who was rated nationally, through a common friend.

The song was continuously played, developed into a sleeper hit, and in July 2007 it peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Notably, it received nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008.

Lead singer Tom Higgenson of the band sings the song in the video, which was directed by Jay Martin, with the other band members appearing behind him in a different room. In Hey There Delilah music video, none of the other band members are performing. The strings that Eric Remschneider, who is not in the film, contributed are the only other instruments.
It features model Melissa McNelis as Delilah, a New York City college student, on a split screen. The majority of the shots that were used to show Delilah in New York, if not all of them, were really filmed in Chicago. The most notable examples of this are found between 1:35 and 1:44, when Delilah boards what looks to be a Chicago L train from the 2600 or 3200 series. Additionally, at 2:26, the blurry yellow cab in the background doesn’t seem to have the NYC TAXI stickers that are typically placed on the front doors of yellow taxis in New York City.
