Radio played the alternative rock song on July 28. Although Paramore is listed as a co-writer on the song, Hayley Williams and Josh Farro of the band wrote the song. The first song composed for the album was this one, which was recorded in the beginning of 2009.
The song was written by Farro and Williams based on their own experiences. Criticism of the song was favourable due to its upbeat musicianship. Ignorance peaked at number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100, showing quite little popularity. Additionally, it peaked at positions 7 and 20, respectively, on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks and Hot Rock Songs charts. Both the US and the UK issued gold certifications for the song. The song performed better on international charts, peaking in the British, Dutch, and Japanese charts’ top 20. In August 2009, the music video for Ignorance was made available. The band is shown in the video performing in a room with just a hanging lightbulb for lighting.
