On October 1, 2008, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer made the music available for the first time on her website. Decode was released as the lead single from the soundtrack on October 21, 2008, after being promoted to American modern rock radio by Fueled by Ramen. Additionally, it appears as a bonus track on the worldwide edition of Brand New Eyes, Paramore’s third studio album.
Written especially for the Twilight movie, Decode is an emo-infused hard rock and alternative song by Hayley Williams, Josh Farro, and Taylor York. It and “I Caught Myself” were recorded in Nashville, Tennessee in September of 2008. Alfred Publishing Co. Inc.’s digital sheet music states that Decode was written in the key of B flat minor and set to a “moderately slow” tempo of 84 BPM in common time. The song’s chord progression is Fmaj7 — Am/D — Am — Em. The vocal range is one octave, seven notes, and one semitone, from the note of G3 to the note of F5.
Decode was a commercial hit for the band both domestically and abroad. It peaked at number 20 on the singles charts in Australia, France, and New Zealand and gave them their second top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. On February 16, 2010, the song achieved Platinum certification in the US after selling more than one million copies. In addition to being nominated for a Grammy Award in 2010 in the category of Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television, or Other Visual Media, it won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Rock Song.
Shane Drake created and produced the official music video for “Decode” in the middle of October 2008. On October 28, 2008, MTV released a teaser video as part of their “Twilight Tuesday” promotion. One day before the CD including the song was released, on November 3, 2008, the complete video debuted on MTV and its affiliates. The music video and movie trailer were screened in PlayStation Home theatres in North America from December 11 to December 18, 2008. Twilight’s DVD/Blu-ray release includes the music video as an extra feature along with an introduction from Catherine Hardwicke, the film’s director.
As of December 6, 2024 the music video for Decode has received more than 529 million views on YouTube.
Paramore – Decode Ringtone N Lyrics
How can I decide what’s right
When you’re clouding up my mind?
I can’t win your losing fight all the time
How can I ever own what’s mine
When you’re always taking sides
But you won’t take away my pride
No not this time
Not this time
How did we get here?
Well, I used to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know
The truth is hiding in your eyes
And it’s hanging on your tongue
Just boiling in my blood
But you think that I can’t see
What kind of man that you are
If you’re a man at all
Well, I will figure this one out
On my own
(I’m screaming, “I love you so!”)
On my own
(My thoughts you can’t decode)
How did we get here?
Well, I used to know you so well, yeah
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know
Do you see what we’ve done?
We’ve gone and made such fools of ourselves
Do you see what we’ve done?
We’ve gone and made such fools of ourselves
Yeah…!
How did we get here?
Well, I used to know you so well, yeah, yeah
How did we get here?
[Album version:] Well, I used to know you so well
[Acoustic version:] Why won’t you show yourself?
I think I know
I think I know
Ooh, there is something
I see in you
It might kill me
I want it to be true
