Coi Leray, an American rapper and singer, has a song called Players. It was made available as the lead single from her second studio album, Coi, on November 30, 2022, via Republic Records and 1801. Along with WorldWideFresh, Feli Ferraro, German (AyoRoc!) Valdes, and producer Johnny Goldstein, Leray wrote the song. It features snippets of the 1982 single “The Message” by American hip-hop group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, taken from their first studio album The Message. The song was remixed in March 2023 and had a guest verse by Busta Rhymes. The original instrumental from the 1997 song “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” was used in the remix.
Leray wrote a song dedicated to women being “players” and teased a preview of it on the video-sharing app TikTok in early November 2022. A week or so later, Leray had dinner with Grandmaster Flash of the hip-hop trio, who gave her a personalised hoodie bearing the words “Girls Are Players Too” in celebration of the song’s release. She disclosed that she rapped the song freestyle in a single take at the end of December 2022.
