American R&B artist Ciara co-wrote and performs the song Go Girl. The track was only featured on the Japan release of her third studio album Fantasy Ride, for which it was issued as the lead single. With a mid-tempo beat and semi-autotuned vocals, the song is a control-praising anthem for female empowerment. Additionally, Ciara’s supporting act set for Britney Spears’ world tour, The Circus Starring Britney Spears, opened with the tune.
Go Girl was issued to radio stations on September 30, 2008, and it was made available to digital outlets globally on September 26, 2008. Music critics gave the song varying ratings. The song was on Vibe’s list of the 80 Greatest Songs of 2008, ranking 69th. American rapper Gorilla Zoe is included in the song’s Official Remix.
Go Girl will not be included on the Standard version of the album, but the music video will be featured on the limited edition of the Fantasy Ride, it was confirmed in April 2009 when the track listing for the album was made available through online retailers. On the Japanese versions of Fantasy Ride, it was included as a bonus track, as well as the B-side to the Love Sex Magic single’s physical release.
The music video for Go Girl which was directed by Melina Matsoukas, was recorded on September 19 and September 20, 2008 and debuted on Yahoo! Music and BET’s “Access Granted” on October 7, 2008. In the first scene of the video, Ciara is seated at a desk next to a typewriter, and four female dancers are seated behind her. She is wearing black stiletto boots that reach her thighs and a dominatrix catsuit. Then Ciara instantly splits after leaping off the desk. On the seats, she and her dancers execute sensual choreography. Ciara enters a lift second. She enters and displays her metamorphosis through unpredictable choreography. She then gets out of the lift. She does robotic dancing routines with her dancers.
T-Pain dances and sings his verse shortly after. Ciara sits atop a motorbike with sparks coming out the back, decked up in another sultry robotic outfit. The song video then cuts to a dance break, inviting all of the Go Girls to join them on the dance floor. After tumbling down a pole, Ciara and a few other dancers begin an aggressive choreography. Ciara types the words Go Girl on the typewriter as the video comes to an end.
