The song Beautiful Liar features vocals by American Beyonce and Colombian Shakira. Stargate members Mikkel S. Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen, along with Beyoncé, Amanda Ghost, and Ian Dench wrote the song. Stargate and Beyoncé also produced it for the deluxe version of Beyoncé’s second solo studio album, B’Day. Gustavo Celis was the one who mixed the song. As the sole single from the album’s deluxe edition, “Beautiful Liar” was made available through Columbia Records and Music World Entertainment on February 12, 2007. The song was mixed and given the title “Bello Embustero” in Spanglish.
The mid-tempo song “Beautiful Liar” combines Beyoncé’s modern hip hop and R&B sounds with Shakira’s Arabic and Latin influences. The song’s premise is female empowerment; two of the lead female characters sing about being enchanted by the same man, but they decide that he isn’t worth their time, rather than arguing over him. Music critics gave the song positive reviews and largely applauded Beyoncé and Shakira’s cooperation. The Spanish version of “Beautiful Liar” was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Record of the Year at the 2007 Latin Grammy Awards, and it was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 50th Grammy Awards. In 2008, it took home the Best-Selling British Song Ivor Novello Award.
