Lead vocalist Chad Kroeger of Canadian rock group Nickelback and recording artist Avril Lavigne collaborated to record the song Let Me Go for Lavigne’s self-titled fifth studio album. David Hodges, Kroeger, and Lavigne wrote it. The song was Avril Lavigne’s third single, and it was released on October 15, 2013, by Epic Records. This is Lavigne’s first single with a featured artist.
The piano-driven power ballad received mixed reviews from critics; some referred to it as “a monster duet,” while others criticised Kroeger’s singing and participation in the song.
On October 15, 2013, a music video for Let Me Go featuring Lavigne exploring the corridors of a deserted home was released. The video displays Kroeger’s likeness channelled through an old yardman, yet reflected and tablet-assisted photos reveal him as himself. The song made its debut at number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 37 on the US Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart. In addition, it debuted at number 7 on the Canadian Digital Songs chart, charted in three airplay formats, and peaked at number 12 on the Canadian Hot 100. As of October 2016, the music video had received over 100 million views on Vevo.
