Flower marks South Korean singer Jisoo‘s solo debut as a member of Blackpink. It was the lead song from her debut single album, Me, and it was released on March 31, 2023 via YG and Interscope. Vince, Teddy, Kush, and VVN wrote the song, which was produced by 24, and is described as a mid-tempo dance, pop, and trap tune with lyrics about ending a toxic relationship. The song also features traditional Korean melodies and Caribbean elements.
Commercially successful, Flower became Jisoo’s first top 10 hit on the chart, peaking at number two on the Billboard Global 200. The song reached its highest position on the South Korea Songs list of Billboard and peaked at number two on the Circle Digital list in South Korea. It hit the top ten in Hungary, Indonesia, MENA, and the Philippines and topped the charts in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Additionally, the song became the highest charting single by a female K-pop performer on the UK Singles Chart and the Canadian Hot 100.
Han Sa-min directed the accompanying music video, which was posted to Blackpink’s YouTube channel at the same time as the release of the single. Music critics gave Flower positive reviews, praising Jisoo’s voice, the song’s intricate production, and the lyrics. The artist made an appearance and gave a performance in the South Korean music show Inkigayo in order to promote the song. Jisoo won her first music show on April 5, just five days after Show Champion released the track. She went on to win nine more music show titles on M Countdown, Show! Music Core, Show Champion, Music Bank, and Inkigayo.
