Fifty Fifty is a South Korean girl group that recorded the song “Cupid”. On February 24, 2023, it was released as The Beginning: Cupid, a single album that included an instrumental version of the song, a Korean version, and an English version (called the “Twin version”) sung by group members Sio and Aran. Attrakt distributed the album. This K-pop, disco-pop, synth-pop, and bubblegum song tells the story of an unfulfilled love and the embarrassment it causes a young lady.
Once a sped-up version of the song became viral on TikTok, it became one of the first from a small K-pop label to gain global commercial success. Following their debut, Fifty Fifty became the fastest Korean musical artist to join either list when their song “Cupid” became their first entry on both the UK Singles list and the Billboard Hot 100. After a 10-week run at number 17, the song became the longest-charting song by a K-pop girl group on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached at number 8 in the UK, where Fifty Fifty became the first K-pop girl group to make it into the top 10. In addition to peaking at number one on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart and in New Zealand, the song also made it to the top 10 in South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
On August 17, 2023, a remix of the “Twin” version featuring Sabrina Carpenter was made available. The EP The Beginning, which was published on September 22, 2023, featured the song’s original version along with the “Twin” version, remix, accelerated version, and live studio version with all four members.
