Brooklyn Go Hard is the second promotional single by American rapper Jay-Z, which also features vocals by alternative artist Santigold, released on December 1, 2008. Kanye West produced the song, which Shawn Carter, West, and Santi White wrote. It is featured as the theme song on the soundtrack of the Notorious B.I.G. movie Notorious. A percentage of the proceeds from its special download, which was made accessible only to (RED)Wire subscribers, were donated to Bono’s Product Red organisation. The Jackie Robinson film 42: The True Story of an American Legend used it in a trailer and multiple TV spots in 2013.
An NME interview from earlier this year revealed that Santigold “may also do something with Jay-Z, it’s kind of secret – it’s not for anything, it’s just ’cause we want to.” The collaboration features a sample from her song Shove It, which is similar to Jay-Z and T.I.’s Swagga Like Us, which samples M.I.A.’s Paper Planes. However, Santigold contributes another new verse in Brooklyn Go Hard.
When the song first appeared on Billboard’s Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles, it peaked at number two and later peaked at number 61 after making its debut at number 62 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart the following week. Brooklyn Go Hard also peaked at number 18 on the Hot Rap Tracks list.
