Despite being released in 2020, Pink Pony Club didn’t make it onto the charts until June 2024, with the publication of Roan’s debut album and a surge in popularity from viral live performances.
Following the success of her song Die Young, Roan moved from her birthplace of Willard, Missouri to Los Angeles in 2018 after signing with Atlantic Records. In an interview with Headliner, Roan claimed that after spending the evening at the homosexual club The Abbey in West Hollywood, he was inspired to write ‘Pink Pony Club’ during this time. Roan and music producer Dan Nigro wrote the tune.
On April 3, 2020, Pink Pony Club was made available. The song was released four months later, and Roan’s label, Atlantic Records, dropped her. In 2022, she began her independent music releases following a year-long hiatus during which she wrote songs, worked jobs, and relocated back to her hometown to finance her project.
After she joined with Island Records and Amusement Records, “Pink Pony Club” was re-released in early 2023 and featured on her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
