Burnin’ Up is a song by the American pop rock band Jonas Brothers, released on June 19, 2008, as the lead single from their third studio album, A Little Bit Longer. The track features uncredited vocals from their bodyguard, Robert “Big Rob” Feggans, who delivers a rap verse.
The band first performed Burnin’ Up during their When You Look Me in the Eyes Tour and at the 2008 Disney Channel Games. Entertainment Weekly noted that the song was inspired by the Jonas Brothers’ appreciation for Prince. Nick Jonas described it as being about “this girl—maybe she’s at a party—and you feel that immediate connection [and] both know it’s there.”
Upon its release, Burnin’ Up achieved significant commercial success. It debuted at number five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, marking the band’s first top-five single in the United States. By February 2015, the song had sold 1.9 million copies in the U.S., and in August 2019, it was certified double platinum by the RIAA, signifying over two million units sold.
The accompanying music video premiered on June 20, 2008, following the Disney Channel’s premiere of Camp Rock. In the video, the Jonas Brothers portray action heroes in imagined film scenes: Nick as a James Bond-like character in “Double Inferno,” Joe as a Sonny Crockett parody in “Hot Tropic,” and Kevin as a Kung Fu master in “The Burning Dragon.” The video features cameo appearances by Selena Gomez, David Carradine, Robert Davi, and Danny Trejo, and was directed by Brendan Malloy and Tim Wheeler. It received nominations for Video of the Year and Best Pop Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.
